Googolplex

Tip 1: Create Links

Get your money's worth from your Googolplex subscription:

Create links from your web site to Googolplex

  • Click here to download logos

Put your link to Googolplex on your home page. Here's how Houston Police Federal Credit Union does it.

  • Place your Googolplex link "above the fold" of the home page so young members and their parents can find it right away. Most users don't maximize their screens, and won’t scroll down your page to search for it. Here's how Flag Credit Union does it.

  • If using a Googolplex logo is not possible, use the specific Googolplex name as a text link. Most users won’t sift through indirect connections that have general labels. Here's how SEMC Federal Credit Union does it.

  • Add links to Googolplex from other pages on your site, such as your youth club page, kids' page, and young member services. Use one of the Googolplex logos for instant recognition.

  • When linking from youth and kids’ pages, use separate "buttons" to distinguish the teenager’s from the kid’s links. Download them from the graphics pages.

  • Avoid using the word "kid" in your teenage links. Members of our high school editorial board say they will not click on a link with "kid" in it – it sounds too juvenile.

Link to specific stories or games

Create a direct link from your specific services to related Googolplex stories.

For example, if you offer vehicle loans online, educate the first-time applicant. Provide a link to the archive page that lists the many C-Note stories on borrowing. Same for debit and credit cards, and student loans.

Or pick a specific story and link to it. Here is one example of how Brokaw Credit Union links to specific stories.

If you have a kids’ and/or teenagers’ club, link directly to Googolplex educational stories on the history of credit unions, starting a youth-run business, or shopping for clothes on a tight budget – to name just a few.

Do this by clicking on any of the seven headings on the front page of 5-Spot, AJ’s Mall, and C- Note University. You can use the URL of the page that lists all the stories or games, or pick a story or game and click on one. Highlight the URL, copy it, and use it to create a link on any of your web pages.

Link back to your site from Googolplex

Use "buttons" specially created in Googolplex to link members from Googolplex back to a page 0on your web site.

Those special buttons are:

  • 5-Spot ad button In 5-Spot: "Watch your savings grow." Create a link from this button to the page describing your youth club or youth savings account.

  • AJs Mall ad button In AJ’s Mall: "Special Deals." Create a link from this button to the page describing your youth club, youth savings account, or smallest certificate of deposit.

  • C-Note ad button In C-Note University: "Financial Services." Create a link from this button to the page describing your teen club, basic checking or premium savings account, debit card, co-signed or share-secured loan, or student loan.

If the service you want to target is not at the top of the destination page, modify the HTML code to take them farther down the page. Here’s an example:

  • Use the "Financial Services" button to connect your C-Note readers to a description of your ATM card. Say this information is located halfway down a page whose URL is "www.mycreditunion.org/product2.html."

  • In the source code for your web site’s page that contains the ATM information, place a "nametag" just before the ATM section begins. The nametag will look like this: <a name="atm"></a>. This nametag will be invisible to readers of the web page.

  • Go to your subscriber customization page and scroll down to the "C-Note Link" section. You will need your user name and password.

  • In the "Change" field, enter "www.mycreditunion.org/product2.html#atm" and click the change button.

"Financial Services" will now take members directly to the ATM section of the page with the URL www.mycreditunion.org/product2.html.

E-mail a link to new games and stories

Googolplex releases one new story and one new game each month, at each of the three levels, for a total of six new items every month.

E-mail links to the new stories and games to your youth members and their parents. Do this by clicking on the front page of 5-Spot, AJ’s Mall, and C-Note University. Click on the new story or game featured in the TV screen (5-Spot), Today’s Specials (AJ’s) or Today’s Events (C-Note).

Highlight the story or game's URL, copy it, and paste it in your e-mail.
