FiCEP Part 2, Module 4: Retirement and Special Issues

Retirement is often the ultimate goal of member’s financial planning. Yet many financial issues can undermine members’ dream of a financially secure retirement.

Studies show that many members have unrealistic expectations about their ability to finance their retirement dreams. A 2006 study showed that among workers who were “very confident” about their retirement finances, 22% had failed to save anything for retirement and another 39% had saved less than $50,000.

Many financial issues linked to spending and debt impact members’ ability to plan for retirement. By addressing these issues and educating members, credit unions can help members extend their financial security throughout their retirement years.
